Spotlight on: Rapid Collagen Infusion (£78)

SONY DSCIf lines and wrinkles are starting to stare back at you when you look in the mirror then you’ll want to hear about our latest anti-ageing innovation: Rapid Collagen Infusion. This new wrinkle-fighting skin solution boosts collagen and hydration levels for plumper skin in just two hours!

We lose 1% of collagen every year starting at age twenty, according to Dr. Murad. The more collagen we lose, the more fine lines and wrinkles appear which is why it’s essential we work to increase our collagen levels as we age.

This fast-acting, multi-tasking, wrinkle-fighting and collagen-building formula promotes healthy collagen and increases hydration levels which together plump up and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

Why it’s so special

For the first time, Dr. Murad and his son Jeff Murad have managed to penetrate the skin’s surface with the power of collagen. The collagen molecule is too large to penetrate the skin, so it’s been previously impossible to use it in a topical skincare product. The clever Murads discovered they could break an intact collagen protein down into its components of amino acids and these are small enough to penetrate the skin and give the benefits of a full collagen molecule. The result: Rapid Collagen Infusion.

The fantastic infusion pumps skin with hydration leaving it smooth and plump. It’s perfect for anyone looking to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and it’s ideal for people in their twenties too, as a preventative anti-ageing measure.

Secret formula

We already know it contains collagen, but what else makes this product so special? It contains Dr. Murad’s unique Cellular Hydro-Lock with Apple and Lentil Seed Extracts, which infuse skin with essential moisture and help to smooth those pesky fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, Winged Kelp (a type of seaweed) helps smooth skin by encouraging the production of collagen (to keep skin plump) and elastin (to keep skin firm).

Your complete skincare regime

For the healthiest skin possible, we recommend using a complete skincare regime which includes a cleanser, followed by a serum and then a moisturiser. And don’t forget an eye cream to protect and hydrate this fragile area.

What our customers say:

“I am raving about this to anyone who’ll listen! I’ve tried loads of anti-ageing creams and serums but nothing has come close to this – I can honestly say I have never known such amazing results in such a short time. Skin is glowing and softer than ever, lines are diminished and I have a youthful radiance I assumed I’d never see again.”

Woods13

“I’ve been using this product for a few weeks and I love it. It absorbs really easily and leaves my skin really smooth. I have dry skin and this leaves it feeling hydrated and I’ve seen an improvement in the fine lines.”

Nimster

“I don’t rave about things easily, but I really love this. I expected it to be a bit ‘serumy’ but it’s not. It’s a light cream texture which absorbs really easily and can be worn under a moisturiser and more importantly, make up. In three weeks I can absolutely see a difference. I am lucky enough to be blessed with good genes which help considerably in the anti-ageing battle, but the fine lines around my eyes have pretty much disappeared. And my skin feels toned but with a plump brightness, which is a feat in itself in this weather. I’ve just turned 45 and was told this week that I look like I’m in my early thirties. It’s a minefield buying skin with so many highly acclaimed products on the market – but I loved this and it’s certainly made a difference where other creams and serums haven’t.”

Why Essential Fatty Acids are Important for Healthy Skin

Regardless of your age, gender or skin type, there’s no getting away from it, a diet rich in Essential Fatty Acids is essential for healthy, beautiful skin. You may not have considered diet as a path to great skin but the truth is, what you eat is as important as the products you use! The best results come from Dr. Murad’s Inclusive Health® system of skincare. This combines cell-saving topical formulas to help you Look Better with targeted cell-building nutrient to help you to Live Better, plus strategies for coping with cell-killing Cultural Stress® to help you Feel Better.

So what Is an Essential Fatty Acid?

Essential Fatty Acids are the “good fats” your body needs to keep cells healthy. They help maintain healthy cellular walls and promote the transference of waste and water on a cellular level. All of those cellular functions are important parts of having healthy skin as well as general health.

Essential Fatty Acids are called “essential” because they are not produced by the human body, yet are essential for our survival. As we don’t produce them, the only way to ensure you have enough of them is through diet and supplements.

Essential Fatty Acids & Younger-looking Skin
There are many factors that contribute to the ageing process of your skin, including a loss of collagen and elastin. However, one of the most important differences between youthful skin and older skin is youthful skin is much better at holding on to water.  That’s why anti-ageing skincare products contain more moisturising ingredients; they’re trying to get that youthful level of hydration back.

Murad Youth Builder SupplementsNow here’s the technical bit! At a cellular level, the ability to stay hydrated and plump depends on a healthy cell membrane that can hold water, take in nutrients and allow waste products to pass out of the cell. Essential Fatty Acids are great for improving the strength and the function of the cell membrane.

Cellular membranes weaken with age so we need a steady stream of Essential Fatty Acids to enable the body to replace old, damaged leaky cells with new, younger, stronger cells with thick, fully functional membranes.  Having strong, youthful cells is the key factor that distinguishes young, healthy, firm skin from saggy, loose skin.

We recommend: Murad Youth Builder Supplements for youthful skin from the inside out.

Essential Fatty Acids & Cellulite

People often think of cellulite as a “fat problem”, but the truth is that cellulite is actually a skin problem. Cellulite is caused by a weakening of skin’s structure which makes it unable to hold back the underlying layer of fat. When that happens, the underlying layer of fat becomes visible as bumps, which is what we know as cellulite.

As we now know from combating ageing skin, a rich supply of dietary Essential Fatty Acids helps the body build stronger cells and it’s these stronger cells which can better hold fat in place. The result? Smoother skin!

We recommend: Murad Firm and SONY DSCTone Dietary Supplement Pack
In addition to helping to build strong cells that can stay hydrated, the Essential Fatty Acids in this formula hydrate the skin by helping it to attract and bind water to its surface.  Connective Support Complex in this formula encourages the appearance of smoother skin and helps improve skin’s elasticity.

What our customers say:
“Hello short shorts!!Finally something that works! I have struggled with fairly severe cellulite since i was a young teenager. I have maintained the accurate weight for my height and even exercised but I still had cellulite!! I have tried lots of topical treatments for cellulite and nothing works. After taking these vitamins for only 4 weeks I have seen a dramatic change in my skin all over my body! My cellulite is barely visible. I want to show off my thighs! My skin is smooth and firm and I have more energy too. All the little tiny bumps that I never really noticed before are gone. Firm and tone is fantastic!”

Essential Fatty Acids & Blemishes
A healthy diet is essential for reducing blemishes and acne too. While a diet that promotes healthy, blemish-free skin is more complex than simply making sure that you get Essential Fatty Acids, a diet rich in Essential Fatty Acids helps build healthy, strong skin that is more naturally resistant to breakouts.

Essential Fatty Acids also support the skin’s natural healing processes to speed the repair of any post-blemish marks or scars from breakouts or pimples.

SalmonWhere Do You Find Essential Fatty Acids?
There are plenty of foods that contain lots of lovely Essential Fatty Acids. A great place to start is by adding a touch of flax seed, walnuts, salmon and canola oil into your diet. Also, be sure to look for products that contain Omega 3s – these are the Essential Fatty Acids that you need the most!

Look out for the next post which will detail which foods are rich in Essential Fatty Acids!

Beautiful skin is about more than what you put on it. It’s also about what you put into your body. Eat a balanced diet and be sure to hydrate internally by “eating your water” as described in Dr. Murad’s best-selling Inclusive Health® book, The Water Secret. Combined with an effective topical skincare regimen to help you Look Better, and a Cultural Stress® management program to help you Feel Better, the results of eating well to Live Better will show on your face and help you face the world!

Top Three Winter Skin Saviours

With the winter in full swing it’s definitely time to look at your skincare routine and ensure you’re equipped to protect your skin from the cold temperatures, skin-drying winds and dehydrating central heating.

Here are our top winter skin saviours:

SONY DSCReassess your cleanser. It’s a good idea to switch to a more gentle, hydrating cleanser to combat the cold. Try Renewing Cleansing Cream which offers a luxurious, gentle cleanse while maintaining the skin’s natural moisture barrier to keep your skin hydrated and comfortable.

What our customers say:

“I struggled for years to find a cleanser that didn’t dry my skin out and cleansed it properly. This cleanser is wonderfully gentle on sensitive skin, but leaves your skin feeling clean and refreshed. A perfect base for a skincare regime.”

IntensiveC_Radiance_Peel HRDon’t be afraid to exfoliate. Continuously moving from the warmth of central heating to the chilly outdoors can cause skin to go a bit haywire. Exfoliate your skin at least once a week to increase cell renewal and remove dead skin cells, leaving your complexion looking radiant and smooth. We recommend newcomer Intensive-C Radiance Peel. This multi-tasker combines glycolic acid and myrtle extract with powerful vitamin C to brighten, smooth and hydrate skin. Used just once a week, this intensive treatment brightens and restores the bleary skin winter blues.

What our customers say:

“Leaves my skin bright & radiant- every time I use it, my skin looks so healthy!”

SONY DSCSwitch to a richer moisturiser. During winter the air is drier and your skin produces less oil, so you need to give it a bit of extra TLC. Help keep your skin well by using a richer moisturiser which contains super-hydrating and anti-inflammatory agents. Look for ingredients such as avocado, sunflower and olive fruit oils for a hydration boost and liquorice extract to reduce any redness and irritation. We’ve packed these nourishing into our Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture just for you; it will lock in moisture for up to eight hours to keep your skin soft and supple all day.

What our customers say:

“This has to be my fave cream of all time. It keeps skin moisturised for the whole day – a must-have for the winter months against the harsh cold weather.”

Summer Skin Essentials: SPF Protection, Antioxidants and Body Care

ImageWe say summer skin care means paying more attention to these:

SPF protection products

Antioxidant products and

Body care.

Here are our top tips and picks:

SPF Protection Products
What They Are: Excuse us if we’re stating the obvious but sun protection products are any products that have an SPF or PA protection factor associated with them. These types of products have been specifically designed to be worn on days when you will be exposed to the sun for extended periods of time (such as a hiking trip or a day at the beach).

Why You Need Them: Nothing damages the skin more than exposure to UV rays. UV rays damage all skin cells, including collagen, elastin and melanocytes. This can lead to skin damage as well as skin diseases. You may spend more time in the sun during the summer months, but you need to stay protected from the damage of UV rays all year round.

What You Need to Know: SPF and PA protection factors for products are both different ways of indicating how much UV protection is offered from a product. SPF (Sun Protection Factor) relates to protection against UVB rays which burn the skin, ouch! PA indicators tell how much protection a product gives against UVA rays, which age the skin, argh!

ImageRecommended Product: Water Resistant Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 | PA+++
Murad’s most popular sunscreen product delivers both UVA and UVB protection while also improving skin’s overall health to make you age-proof.

Customer Review
“I have very fair skin, and burn easily. This product was the best investment I ever made to protect my skin against the sun! I recently travelled to the Dominican Republic and Mexico; I used this sun block and my skin did not burn. I am convinced this is the best sun protection for my fair skin type.”

Antioxidant Skin Care Products for Summer
What They Are: Antioxidant skin care products are any topical skin care products that have been formulated with an emphasis on including antioxidants, the natural healthy skin agents found in many fruits and vegetables.

Why You Need Them: Much of the damage that UV rays do to your skin can be prevented or undone with antioxidants. UV rays create free radicals in your body. Free radicals are damaged cells that attack other cells (primarily skin cells) in an effort to repair themselves. When a free radical attacks a skin cell, it damages it and results in sun damage, age and sun spots or even skin diseases. Antioxidants are nature’s warriors against free radicals and can work to minimise UV damage and sun damage.

What You Need to Know: It’s not only important to include antioxidants in your topical skin care. It’s equally important to leverage the Inclusive Health™® aspect of Living Better and eat a diet rich in antioxidants. Though antioxidants can be found in almost all fruits and vegetables, they are found in higher quantities in fruits that have a dark color (such as blueberries and pomegranates) and dark green, leafy vegetables.

ImageRecommended Product: Pomphenol Sunguard Dietary Supplement

These supplements contain 100% pure pomegranate extract! Pomegranate is one of the most important foods to combat sun damage as it’s full of polyphenols like ellagic acid. Dr. Murad has conducted clinical trials that show roughly a 25% improvement in SPF when pomegranate is added to a diet. If your sunscreen also contains pomegranate extract there is an additional improvement in SPF by 20%. Customers have found they can help prevent prickly heat too!

Customer Review

“I know my skin is being protected when I take this supplement. This truly is sunscreen from the inside/out. Pomegranate is a very powerful antioxidant, and makes me feel more safe than just wearing sunscreen alone.”

Body Care Products for Summer
What They Are: Just so we’re perfectly clear, Body Care products are any type of product that’s designed for skin that isn’t on your face! That may mean a firming and smoothing cream or it may mean a back acne treatment.

Why You Need Them: Couple of reasons. First, the warm weather means we expose more skin – and we dust off the dreaded bikini! Secondly, body care products are formulated differently than skin care products for your face. The skin on the rest of your body tends to be thicker and rougher than on your face and skin care products need to address this difference in texture.

What You Need to Know: Body care shouldn’t be something that you do only for summer. Just because you don’t see your skin as often in the winter, it doesn’t mean that it’s not important to keep it healthy!

ImageRecommended Product: Murad Firm and Tone Serum
This topical cream helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite and loose skin. It’s a patented, breakthrough product which contains encapsulated liposomes (bear with us) that deliver active ingredients to the skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks – hoorah!

Customer Review
“This was my first experiment with a cellulite regimen and I was amazed! I kept it in my refrigerator and applied nearly every day after showering. Even my friends are amazed by the results. Not only did the cellulite disappear, but my legs became firmer.”

Final thought on summer skincare: remember regardless of your summer skin needs, be sure to combine your topical skin care products with a healthy diet, exercise and stress management techniques so you can start Looking Better, Living Better and Feeling Better!

Pregnancy Glow or Pregnancy Low?

pregnant-ladyAfter the wonderful news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting the pitter patter of tiny royal feet, we thought we would give some tips on skincare during pregnancy. This is a time when hormones go wild and for some it means a healthy pregnancy ‘glow’, but for others it can mean a pregnancy low.

Here are some tips and tricks to keep your skin looking beautiful and radiant during pregnancy:

Acne and Spots
Pregnancy has a funny way of clearing up problem skin and muddling up clear skin. Hormonal shifts during pregnancy increase androgens in the body and can cause the sebaceous glands to go into overdrive, boosting the production of sebum which can block your pores and lead to inflammation and breakouts.

Make sure to cleanse, treat and moisturise your face in the morning and again at night to rid skin of dirt and bacteria. Look for sulphur-based topical products, like the Blemish Spot Treatment, as well as products containing AHAs or glycolic acid to encourage cell turnover, like the AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser.

If you find your skin is particularly oily, use a moisturiser to balance oil production and leave skin looking matte, like the Oil Control Mattifier SPF 15, and make sure your make-up won’t clog pores. Use the Skin Perfecting Primer – Blemish and Shine Control for a perfectly matte and shine-free finish.

Dryness/Itchiness
From a dry face to an itchy belly, you can thank hormonal shifts and stretching skin for these pregnancy skin concerns. Many women also find that they have an increased sensitivity to conditions that normally only make them feel slightly itchy, such as eczema and food allergies.

Wear loose cotton clothing, since perspiration can increase itching. Use mild products to avoid reactions to fragrance and harsh ingredients like our Redness Therapy Range which soothes and hydrates skin providing instant relief from irritation.

Melasma
Also known as “the mask of pregnancy,” melasma is typically characterised by discolouration on the forehead, upper cheeks, nose and/or upper lip. It is commonly believed to be caused by hormonal shifts during pregnancy.

Use an SPF religiously! Sun exposure can worsen the effects of melasma. Try Pomphenol Sunguard Dietary Supplements which are 100% pure pomegranate. Pomegranate extract has been shown to increase the SPF of topical sunscreens, plus it has great antioxidants to help fight free radical damage but as always, ask your doctor before taking any internal supplements.

Stretch Marks
More than half of all pregnant women get stretch marks during their pregnancy. Usually appearing during the later months of pregnancy, stretch marks are caused by small tears in the connective tissue that supports the skin.

Keep your belly well hydrated as it grows. Look for a lotion that contains shea butter and Vitamin E to help hydrate, and Vitamin C to enhance skin’s elasticity, like our Body Firming Cream. Also, keep your weight in check by gaining the healthy amount recommended by your doctor, and avoid sudden weight gains if possible.

Eat Your Water
As always, eating a varied and healthy diet is extremely important not only for your skin but for the developing foetus inside you. Fruit and green leafy vegetables are loaded with essential vitamins and nutrients which will boost your overall health and your baby’s.
.
Remember: Always talk to your doctor before taking any internal supplements.

Emergency Spot Treatment Regime

Sometimes, no matter how great your skincare routine is, you still get a spot. It happens to us all. In fact, I very much doubt that there is anyone in the world who has not experienced a spot.

So what exactly can you do to minimise their presence and get rid of them as quickly as possible? Well, your first thought might be to grab the concealer and cover it up but before you do anything read these quick tips and tricks on how to deal with spots.

As soon as you feel a blemish developing, treat it.
The sooner you deal with the problem, the sooner it will go away. If you’re lucky enough to notice the blemish before you go to sleep at night, then whip out a treatment specifically designed to treat spots. Do not use toothpaste or perfume on a spot, this will only dry out the spot making it much more noticeable and inflamed. Use the Blemish Spot Treatment which contains Sulphur to treat the blemish and Liquorice Root Extract to calm any inflammation.

Draw out impurities.
After you have used the Blemish Spot Treatment, apply a mask directly to the spot. This will draw out spot-causing bacteria and impurities. Our favourite is the Clarifying Mask which contains rare earth clays to draw out and absorb pore-clogging dirt and oil, so you can wake up with your spot shrunk!

.

Conceal
If you haven’t had the luxury of dealing with a spot the night before, it’s time to heal and conceal. The most basic (and important) piece of make-up advice you need to remember is to make sure the concealer that you choose matches your skin tone. If it’s the wrong colour you will only be drawing unnecessary attention to the spot(s).

Make sure the concealer you are using won’t clog pores or dry out spots, making them worse. Look for a high-quality concealer with clinical skincare benefits—non comedogenic with a gentle treatment like salicylic acid. Our Blemish Treatment Concealer comes light and medium, and heals as it conceals.

Don’t cake on the make-up.
Remember, less is more when it comes to concealer. You might think your spot is really obvious but most people will only glance at your face and probably won’t notice your spot at all. A small dab of concealer is usually enough to make sure your spot doesn’t stand out. In contrast, a big, heavy spot of concealer will definitely draw attention to your spot.

Again, use a light foundation which won’t clog pores, making the spot worse. The Hybrids Skin Perfecting Primer – Blemish and Shine Control is perfect for concealing imperfections and giving a flawless, matte finish while the Probiotic Complex treats spots, keeping pores clear and under control.

Do not pop your spots!
We can’t stress enough just how important this is. Popping your spots is one of the worst things you can do. Not only can it cause scarring (which is much harder to conceal than a spot), but it spreads infection. When you squeeze the spot to the surface, you are also squeezing far more bacteria further under the skin leading to more spots!

Skincare Ingredients – What do they really mean?

Looking after your skin is a must but when you hear words like Hyaluronic Acid and Peptides, it can all become rather daunting. So what exactly do all these scientific words mean and which ones should you be looking out for? The skincare experts at Murad explain all…

Retinol is a popular ingredient in many anti-ageing products and one that you may already be familiar with. It is an active form of the vitamin A molecule and often described as an anti-ageing wonder ingredient.  It is a powerful exfoliant that encourages dead skin to shed and turn over younger, healthier cells. Using retinols can improve the firmness of skin, reverse the signs of sun and environmental damage, treat acne, reduce hyperpigmentation, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also increases the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid making skin look smooth, youthful and supple.

Hyaluronic Acid can sound scary but it is a naturally occurring and essential substance in the human body that regulates cell renewal, lubricates connective tissue and maintains the skin’s natural moisture and elasticity. When used topically, it creates a moisture barrier on the skin, making it feel smoother and softer.

.

.

Ceramides are the glue that hold your cells together, forming a protective layer that plumps the skin and helps retain moisture. They are used to replenish the natural lipids that are lost from exposure to harsh environmental factors such as drying winds, sun damage and also during the ageing process. They restore moisture, fortify the skin’s natural barrier and help protect it against harm from foreign elements. Ceramides are also particularly effective in treating eczema and are great for your hair too, protecting and preventing breakages.

Peptides are segments of active proteins that communicate with cells and instruct them to behave in certain ways. Peptides are often used in anti-ageing products to encourage skin to produce collagen, reduce redness or signal muscles to relax reducing wrinkles.  Other peptides don’t actually stimulate your skin at all but are so small they are used to penetrate deep into the layers of the skin and deliver other ingredients.

.

Alpha Hydroxy Acid and Beta Hydroxy Acid are organic acids that act as exfoliants. AHA’s are derived from fruit and milk and include glycolic acid, lactic acid and malic acid among others. BHA refers to Salicylic Acid, which is derived from plants. While they both exfoliate, AHA are small molecules and penetrate deep down into pores removing dead skin cells, smoothing lines and wrinkles, refining pores and stimulating cell turnover. BHA’s are much larger and work the surface of the skin. The result is that they stay in the pore and continue to work, functioning to break down the build up that is responsible for enlarged pores, acne and inflammatory conditions.
